Addictive Dismissal
How humans destroy authority, recreate it, and then pretend the replacement is neutral.
Do not become addicted to proving what must die before discovering what deserves to live.
Definition
Addictive Dismissal is the repeated human tendency to gain certainty, identity, status, emotional relief or a sense of intelligence by tearing down an existing body of meaning faster than we understand what it did, what will replace it and whether the replacement recreates the same problem under a new name.
It is not ordinary disagreement. It is not healthy scepticism. It is not the necessary removal of a harmful structure.
It is the addiction to the act of negation itself—the intoxicating feeling of exposing, defeating, mocking, cancelling, disproving, overthrowing or declaring something dead—without accepting responsibility for the space left behind.
The conversation that produced this body moved through Ruza Bat, Dr. Malachi York, language, science, religion, race, power, Nietzsche, dictatorship, emotion, evil and human agency. But the same structure kept reappearing beneath all of them.
1. The First Law: No Human Exemption
There is no human capacity I can identify in another person that I should assume could never exist in me.
That does not mean everybody has identical intelligence, training, circumstances, temperament or ability. It means nobody is a different species of moral or intellectual creature.
The capacities beneath extraordinary insight and beneath destructive behaviour—imagination, abstraction, pattern recognition, frustration, intuition, cruelty, devotion, arrogance, love, fear, obedience, invention and delusion—are human capacities.
Whatever instrument I use to examine somebody else must also be capable of reaching me.
Addictive Dismissal avoids that pressure. It divides the world into the deceived and awakened, stupid and intelligent, corrupt and righteous, programmed and free, dictator and innocent public, cult member and objective observer. The critic quietly exempts themselves from the phenomenon being criticised. That is usually the first corruption.
2. Why Dismissal Becomes Addictive
Dismissal gives immediate rewards: intellectual superiority, moral cleanliness, group belonging, relief from uncertainty, anger with a target, a simplified world, freedom from understanding complexity, the thrill of possessing hidden knowledge and permission to ignore whatever the dismissed body once carried.
Building is slower. Building requires consequences. Building exposes the builder to criticism.
Demolition can be performed in one sentence: “Religion is superstition.” “Science is propaganda.” “English is confusion.” “The mainstream is lying.” “The alternatives are delusional.” “That person is evil.” “That group is brainwashed.”
Each statement may contain a legitimate criticism. But the emotional reward can arrive before the claim has earned its breadth.
The person becomes skilled at discovering defects while remaining unskilled at carrying functions.
3. Nietzsche and Demolition Without Responsibility
The neglected weight of “God is dead” is not simply celebration at religion’s defeat. Nietzsche’s madman understood that European civilisation had weakened the metaphysical structure beneath morality, purpose, truth, obligation, guilt, meaning and human dignity while continuing to behave as though those inherited values would remain floating in place.
What now carries the weight?
That is the central question of Addictive Dismissal.
Before destroying a body, ask what function it performed, what human need it organised, what harm it caused, what harm it prevented, what replaces it, who controls the replacement, what new vocabulary disguises the same architecture and whether the replacement can withstand the criticism used against its predecessor.
Nietzsche’s madman is essentially the fire marshal arriving after everybody has celebrated burning down the building.
Removing the crown does not abolish crowning.
Very often the critic places themselves—or their preferred institution—on the empty throne.
4. Science, Religion and Alternative Systems
Science challenged religious authority by demanding observation, method, reproducibility, visible reasoning, correction and evidence beyond the speaker’s status. That challenge was necessary.
But scientific institutions can drift toward “Accept this because qualified scientists say so.” That is not the same as science as method. It is science functioning as cultural authority.
Different systems can perform similar authority functions without being identical. The content changes while the architecture survives.
Alternative groups can reproduce the same structure. A system defeats an authority, experiences liberation and recreates authority through itself.
5. Attack to Teach, Defend or Rebuild
Criticism is not the problem. Attack may be necessary. Some structures are predatory. Some claims are false. Some authorities abuse their position. Some language conceals harm.
Attack to reveal. Attack to defend. Attack to teach. Attack to repair. Attack to rebuild.
Attack merely to experience attack produces intellectual vandalism.
A useful criticism should identify exactly what is being attacked, which claim or function is defective, what evidence shows the defect, what survives the criticism, what will occupy the space afterward, how the replacement will be governed and whether the same criticism could reach the critic.
This is not softness. It is responsible demolition.
6. Language and Verbal Demolition
The “spelling is a spell” body reveals both the power and danger of linguistic criticism. A word can affect somebody through understood meaning, tone, social context, memory, expectation, repetition, authority, ritual, bodily association, later translation or belief that the word has power.
The smiling-curse test isolates the mechanism: somebody curses you in a language you do not understand while smiling. Have you been cursed?
The answer depends on the proposed route. If the effect depends on meaning, comprehension matters. If it depends on tone, the smile may conceal threat. If it depends on later interpretation, the effect may arrive after translation. If sound has intrinsic energetic force, comprehension should not matter.
The mistake is collapsing all these routes into “Words are spells.” That phrase may be insightful as metaphor and incomplete as mechanism.
A wordplay can expose a possibility. It does not automatically establish an etymology. An etymology does not automatically establish intention. An intention does not automatically establish a global causal mechanism.
7. Dictators, Dictation and Invisible Control
A dictator is treated as a special category of evil person. But dictation is normal human life. Parents dictate to children. Governments dictate through law. Employers dictate conditions. Bodies dictate through hunger, exhaustion, pain, desire and age. Language dictates available categories. Crowds dictate acceptable behaviour. Traditions dictate expectations. Individuals dictate rules to themselves.
So the presence of dictation cannot be the entire moral test.
What is dictating? By what authority? Toward what purpose? Who benefits? Who bears the cost? Can it be challenged? Can it be corrected? Can the person leave? Is the dictation temporary, functional or absolute?
A dictator is not merely somebody who gives instructions. Dictatorship is dictation without sufficient correction, accountability, consent or escape.
8. Truth, Objectivity and Non-Nefarious Reality
Any replacement system that does not meaningfully reflect truth, objectivity or at least some non-nefarious reality will probably bend toward domination.
But “I possess ultimate truth” has historically been one of power’s favourite costumes. Access to truth cannot be measured by confidence alone.
The nearer a system claims to stand to ultimate truth, the stronger its obligations should become: greater transparency, clearer routes, more precise claims, visible assumptions, stronger correction channels, less personal exemption, proportionate authority, honest uncertainty and consequence tracking.
Human beings may never possess final objectivity in full. That does not mean all accounts are equal.
Truth should constrain power. Power should not define truth merely because it holds the microphone.
9. Race and Replacement Supremacy
A real structure can be exposed: colonial history, Eurocentric interpretation, suppressed African knowledge, white-dominated institutions and Blackness placed beneath whiteness in politics, aesthetics, law, economy and culture. That body must be examined honestly.
But correction can become addicted to reversal. That does not remove racial hierarchy. It rotates the pyramid.
Replacing the group at the top is not the same as dismantling supremacy.
A body can contain neglected truth and still produce a dangerous crown.
10. Evil and the Temptation to Dismiss the Person
The word evil may become another instrument of Addictive Dismissal. Once somebody is declared evil, investigation can stop. Their humanity, route, context and internal mechanism become irrelevant. The critic feels authorised to destroy rather than understand.
Evil may be modelled as a property inside the individual, a description of behaviour, a pattern emerging through systems, an ideology transmitted between people, an external spiritual force or a metaphorical personification of destructive tendencies.
What is moving, what carries it, and where does choice enter?
The same question applies to emotions, thoughts, ideologies, fear, hatred, religious conviction, scientific framing, racial narratives and language.
Human language alternates between ownership and being carried: “I have anger.” “Anger took over.” “A thought came to me.” “Fear made me do it.” “Hatred spread.” “The idea took hold.”
That does not prove emotions or thoughts are independent beings. It shows that people often experience themselves as hosts, carriers, receivers, amplifiers and transmitters—not merely sovereign authors.
11. The Fully Formed Mechanism
- Contact with a real defect: a contradiction, injustice, falsehood, hypocrisy or institutional failure is identified.
- Emotional ignition: anger, humiliation, excitement, superiority or liberation enters.
- Expansion: the local defect becomes proof that the entire body is fraudulent.
- Identity formation: the critic becomes one of the people who “sees through it.”
- Human exemption: the critic assumes they are not subject to the same errors.
- Demolition: the old authority is stripped of all value, complexity and function.
- Replacement blindness: the critic fails to examine what enters the empty space.
- New crown: a new teacher, institution, doctrine, language, class, race, method or ideology becomes authoritative.
- Repetition: criticism of the new crown is dismissed using the same protections once condemned in the old system.
The rebellion becomes administration. The heretic becomes priest. The liberator becomes gatekeeper. The person who hated dictation becomes the new dictator.
12. Dismissal and Discernment
Discernment separates. Dismissal erases.
- Discernment says: “This claim fails, but another part may survive.” Dismissal says: “Because one part fails, the whole body is worthless.”
- Discernment names uncertainty. Dismissal experiences uncertainty as weakness.
- Discernment preserves the route. Dismissal preserves the verdict.
- Discernment is willing to rebuild. Dismissal depends upon having something beneath it to destroy.
- Discernment applies the same standard inward. Dismissal makes the critic exceptional.
Governing Laws
No criticism is complete until its standard can reach the critic.
Before destroying a body, identify what it contains, what function it performs and what will replace it.
Every successful attack creates an opening. The opening must be traced before victory is celebrated.
Do not ask only whether dictation exists. Ask what dictates, by what right, toward what outcome and through what correction route.
Do not examine only the person carrying a belief, emotion, ideology or authority. Examine what entered them, how it moved, what amplified it and what it produces through them.
A hierarchy is not dismantled merely because a different group occupies its highest point.
Criticism should reveal, protect, teach, repair or reconstruct—not merely provide the pleasure of destruction.
The stronger a claim to truth or objectivity, the greater the requirement for transparency, precision, accountability and correction.
Final Lock
Addictive Dismissal is the human compulsion to obtain certainty, identity and authority by destroying an existing body without fully tracing its function, preserving what survives or governing the replacement. It appears in religion, science, politics, alternative movements, race, language, philosophy and personal relationships.
It allows the critic to condemn dictation while becoming a dictator, reject priesthood while forming a new priesthood, attack supremacy while reversing its direction and declare a structure dead while continuing to depend upon the values it carried.
The cure is not passive tolerance. It is responsible attack: non-exempt, traceable, consequence-aware, capable of teaching, defending, correcting and rebuilding.
Do not become addicted to proving what must die before discovering what deserves to live.
